Things you don't need a permit for-

According to the Lewis County Permit Center, some of the things you do not need a permit to construct are as follows: a single story 200 sq. foot building that does not include any habitable living space, fences not exceeding 7 feet tall, retaining walls not over 4 feet tall, sidewalks, driveways other than direct county road access and shade structures. Residential swing sets and play equipment do not require a permit. Happy to hear!

Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, countertop and similar finish work. Oh Goody! I am permitted to paint! Or permitted to not permit to paint. So exciting!

Something I thought was interesting... Technically a person is required to get a permit for any prefabricated swimming pool that is more than 24" inches deep. Really!? That's unfortunate. Going to send a 10 year old to pull a permit for the summer pool. More than likely there is some outside force mandating this type of regulation. My best guess is the county isn't interested in inspecting the kids' temporary summer backyard pool. Unfortunately there is always someone out there that has to test the water. See what I did there. Installing a makeshift 6 foot deep pool that blows out and takes out the neighbors fence. Send us your end of summer backyard pool destruction videos. Make sure your neighbor's fence is under 7 feet or you'll need a permit to replace it.

Have a Willy Great Day!
