When was the last time you crawled under your house or climbed into
the attic to look around? A person should ask someone to perform this task or do so
themselves at least once a year. Is there a source for a potential
rodent problem?
Did you find the place that they may be getting in?
Has a heat duct come loose causing a high energy bill? Is there an
undiscovered leak? Is the vapour barrier in place against the soil and
not disturbed by an animal? Are your bird blocks intact in the attic?
Are there odd looking little holes through your attic insulation? The
entire process might take you 45 minutes to climb under and above your
home but it could save you a lot of money and heartache. Plus, crawling
under your home is good for your abs!
Discovering that
leaking frost-less faucet that someone forgot to disconnect the hose from
this winter may be leaking under the house every time it is used.
Possibly a disconnected dryer vent that is pumping lint and warm
moisture under your home potentially causing mold. Why is there this
little pile of dog or cat food under here? Ask your resident possum? Get
under that house and get your ab workout in. Plus, it's quiet and
peaceful down there!
Bees, bats and birds love that
little hole where the screen is pulled loose on your roof vent. It's a
great place for them to raise their family. Right over the head of your
family. Are all your bath exhaust fans hooked up to exhaust that moist
warm air outside of your attic? Is the ducting insulated to prevent a
dew point? If it is not an insulated exhaust duct then the warm air
going through the pipe will cause moist air to condense on the exterior
of the pipe and run down into your home. Get into that attic before it
is 90 degrees outside and a 120 in the attic. Birds are starting to nest
now. The timing is right.
