Willy's Wednesday Words of Wisdom
A long time ago I used to work at a Dairy processing plant. It was a
24/7/365 operation. There was no down time. We didn't have extra
employees waiting in the wings; So if someone called in sick, you had to
work a double shift or maybe someone would come in early and split the
extra shift with you. We learned early on that if one person caught a
bug we were all at risk. Touch points were the primary spreading
mechanism. We learned that the forklift steering wheel, door handles,
control panel buttons and even an ink pen left on the counter could
carry a virus as long as moisture remained on the touch point. We
learned to do simple things so the entire crew did not get sick. Simple
things like pouring potato chips out of the family size bag instead of
reaching inside to grab a handful. A quick wipe on the break room
microwave door handle and buttons reduced cross contamination. Masks
were useless and may even aid in spreading a virus. The crew learned to
throw masks away rather than adjust them with their potentially
contaminated hands. When you go in and out of your house or any building
you usually go from warm to cold to warm. Your nose will drip just from
the temperature and moisture changes. People, without thinking about
it, give their nose a quick wipe and the process of spreading bacteria
continues. As the coming cold and flu season approaches try to be
mindful of cross-contamination on touch points. Keep your hands off your
face. Keep your hands off your mask if you choose to wear one. Stay
safe, stay healthy and have a Willy Great Day!!
